Durban - One wrong move could have ended in tragedy for two young boys captured on video 'bus surfing' behind a moving Durban Transport bus on a busy main road in KwaMashu.
The video of the reckless behaviour has been circulating on social media and was captured by someone travelling in a vehicle behind the bus.
In the video, while the two boys hang onto the back of the bus, they begin doing tricks including running on the road, holding on with one hand while turning to face the vehicles behind them, and hanging upside down.
eThekwini Municipality said the City had not received any reports of children ‘bus surfing’ on city buses.
However, the city urged those who are guilty of this behaviour to stop, as it is not only illegal, but extremely dangerous.
Municipal spokesperson Msawakhe Mayisela said the ‘surfer’ could easily fall off, be seriously injured or die in traffic.
He said this behaviour also poses a threat to other drivers on the road.
“We urge parents and teachers to also have a serious conversation with children about this reckless criminal behaviour and alert them to the dangers,” said Mayisela.
The city appealed to the public to report such incidents to Metro Police on 031 361 0000 or the SAPS on 10111 as they happen.
