Miss South Africa, Mia le Roux, will debut her national costume and evening gowns originally designed for the Miss Universe pageant at Cape Town Fashion Week (CTFW): The Edit Spring Summer 24.

The prestigious fashion event, hosted by Africa Fashion International (AFI), takes place this weekend at the Hollywoodbets Kenilworth Racecourse, in Cape Town.

Le Roux was forced to withdraw from the Miss Universe competition earlier this month due to severe vertigo requiring medical intervention. However, she expressed excitement about unveiling the crafted pieces on home soil.

“I am so excited to announce that I will be showcasing my national costume and one of my evening gowns at Cape Town Fashion Week,” said Le Roux.

“Countless hours of work went into these one-of-a-kind, magnificent pieces. I cannot wait to wear them proudly and share them with the rest of the world, as well as the story behind them!”

Dr Precious Moloi-Motsepe, Founder and Executive Chair of AFI, praised the collaboration behind the designs.

“This masterpiece, in collaboration with Esther Mahlangu, was brought to life by the talented artisans and designers of the AFI Atelier, under the tutelage of AFI Creative Designer Gavin Rajah. It reflects over 150 hours of meticulous craftsmanship. Each crystal and bead celebrates the rich cultural heritage of South Africa,” she said.

Stephanie Weil, CEO of the Miss South Africa Organisation, applauded Le Roux’s resilience. “The past month has been challenging, but Mia has once again demonstrated her ability to triumph over setbacks. We are thrilled to reveal this year’s national costume on such an iconic stage as CTFW,” she said.

Le Roux will walk the runway on November 30, ahead of the exclusive AFI PRIVÉ show, where tailored merchandise will also be available.
