Durban - eThekwini Surfriders Association, the organisation affiliated to KZN Surfriders Association and Surfing South Africa, the official governing body for the sport of surfing in South Africa, received a donation on Monday from CMH Kempster Ford Durban South for their “About Surfers Not Street Children” initiative.

The car dealership said they recognised the great effort by the surfing association and decided to help out a little by giving them the use of a sponsored vehicle.

“With the Ford Ranger, the association can transport underprivileged surfers who have qualified for its team to take part at the South African championships in Jeffreys Bay. The dealership has made a further financial contribution to cover fuel as well as accommodation costs for these very hard-working and deserving stars.”

Paul Canning, a former World Championship Tour surfer of 10 years and the brand director of the association, said the Surfers Not Street Children model combines surfing, mentorship, and care.

“The organisation has dedicated local teams that include social workers, carers, lifeguards, surf coaches and administrators. Many children empowered by Surfers Not Street Children have transformed their lives. Some have gone from ‘street children’ to becoming coffee baristas, lifesavers, surf-shop staff, restaurateurs, surf coaches, and even pro surfers.”

Canning added that the association was extremely proud and honoured to partner with CMH Kempster Ford Durban South.

“Our ESA development surfers who make the team to compete in this year’s South African Surfing Championships from 5 -9 October will be travelling down to Jeffreys Bay in style!

“I would like to extend a huge thank-you to Matthew Buck and the Kempster Ford Durban South dealership for supporting the eThekwini Surfriders Association and our development surfing programme.”
