Durban - The eThekwini Municipality has called on the public to come out in their numbers to support African champions Banyana Banyana as they take on Brazil on Monday at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.
The match is scheduled to begin at 6pm.
“The eThekwini Municipality and the KZN Provincial Government are proud to welcome African champions Banyana Banyana to the city for the clash against Brazil at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Monday, 5 September,” said the municipality.
Tickets are available at R50 each, online at TicketPro or at participating Spar outlets and petrol stations.
“The public is invited to come out in numbers to support our women’s football team and fill the stadium,” said the municipality.
Responding to the invite on the city’s Facebook page a resident said: “What a lovely gesture. Such a generous price. Let’s go and support our ladies!”
Another resident challenged residents across KwaZulu-Natal to support the team.
“I’m there full support. The best is a live game. Let's go out there KZN,” he said.
In an IOL Sport report last week, Banyana Banyana captain Andile Dlamini said the team are thrilled to face Brazil as they prepare for the 2023 Women’s World Cup.
The South Africans have been in jovial mood in the last few weeks, having won their maiden Africa Women’s Cup of Nations in July.
“...For us, it’s more of being focused and aiming for the goal of getting to the World Cup and doing our best. But we have to prepare well as a team…Preparing well means playing against teams such as Brazil who are tough opponents,” said Dlamini.
The team will be looking to improve on their performance against Brazil after suffering a 3-0 defeat in the first friendly at Orlando Stadium on Friday.
