A YouTuber, called Lia, who has 34.5 million followers and goes by the name of sssniperwolf, bought a few designer dresses from Temu to see whether they lived up to the images on the website.
She shared what she refers to as “a bunch of unrealistic dresses” off Temu and set about finding out if they are a sleigh or a scam.
She had reservations as to whether she would be able to pay $24 (R445,83) and get a dress that looks like it’s something you could wear to the Met Gala.
When the dresses arrived she was stunned to discover that they were virtually exactly the same as the images and the quality was excellent.
This is what she had to say about a fringed shimmery outfit; “Grandma's upholstery is what you see with a slight shimmer in the material”.
She went on to say; “This looks pretty high quality to me this is definitely not from Shein or Temu and is the highest quality dress I've ever bought off Temu. The detail and quality does the thing for $36. It would be so perfect for prom. It actually looked like what I got!”
She bought another Disney-style dress with LED lights.
“This is a kid's dress and it lights up - over 41,000 people bought this dress and it has five stars but I just don't believe that I can buy a $20 dress off Temu.”
“Wow incredible - it looks exactly like the app - the lights turn on and the LEDs are sewn into the seams with a battery box at the waist of the skirt. I feel like a Disney princess”!

Lia made me laugh; who else is smiling because of Lia? I believe it's an X-ray print on that dress, which does indeed seem inappropriate. It's surprising that people actually want to wear that, but to each their own.
