London - Stress-busting techniques can ease depression, reduce fatigue and increase mental energy in women with breast cancer, according to research.
Led by Dr Caroline Hoffman of The Haven charity, the study included 229 women who had undergone surgery, chemotherapy or radiotherapy for breast cancer.
Half practised Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction techniques – combining yoga, meditation and positive thinking – at a two-hour class every week for eight weeks, plus a six-hour session.
The results, published online in the Journal of Clinical Oncology, showed statistically significant improvements for up to 12 weeks in overall mood and levels of anxiety, depression, anger, vigour, fatigue and confusion among women who undertook MBSR, but not in those in the control group. - Daily Mail
