Forget hot baths, yoga classes and spa treatments - the best way to chill out is to listen to music. But not just any old track. Musicians have composed the world’s most relaxing song - and it doesn’t include whale sounds or panpipes.
Called Weightless, the track was written by Manchester-based band Marconi Union, and uses a blend of rhythms, tones, frequencies and pauses, designed to transport listeners to a deep state of calm.
Researchers monitored 40 women listening to the eight-minute track, measuring its effects on heart rate, levels of the stress hormone cortisone and blood pressure, and compared these results to those of the same women when being massaged or listening to the music of other calming artists.
It was found to be 11 percent more relaxing than any other song, with women displaying slower breathing, lower blood pressure and heart rate.
It can be downloaded free from facebook.com/radox, but motorists have been warned not to listen to it when driving, lest they nod off. - Daily Mail
