In a world where dreams often remain just that, Siphiwe Katjene is a vibrant testament to following your passion.
Almost two years ago, she turned her lifelong dream into reality by launching her own Cap Classique brand, House of Azari.
Based in Pretoria, Siphiwe is not just a wife and mother of three, she’s also a successful industrial psychologist and co-founder of the consulting firm PsychWell, which she runs alongside her husband.
On Sunday, November 23, Katjene will showcase her sparkling creations at the Bubbly & Gin Summer Garden Party & Polo, held at the stunning Val de Vie Estate in Paarl from 12pm to 6pm.
IOL caught up with her to learn about her journey, her bubbly, and what guests can expect at the event.
“My lifelong dream of owning a label dedicated to Cap Classique has materialised into the exquisite reality of House of Azari,” Siphiwe shared with a warm smile.
“Cap Classique has always been more than just a beverage for me, it’s a cherished elixir that inspired this remarkable journey.” Launched in December 2022, House of Azari is a culmination of her dedication and passion.
The name “Azari” carries deep significance. “Rooted in Arabic, it signifies divine assistance, power, strength, and a pioneering spirit,” she explained.
It’s a fitting name for a brand that embodies Siphiwe’s vibrant energy and commitment to excellence.
Collaborating with a Stellenbosch farm, Katjene brings creativity and artistry to her winemaking.
“We infuse our unique style into every bottle,” she said.
At the Bubbly & Gin event, guests can look forward to sampling three delightful varietals:
1.Brut Rosé: An elegant Pinot Noir/Chardonnay blend, this bubbly has recently been awarded a Gold medal at the Intercontinental Wine Challenge 2024. “It’s light pink colour and aroma of red berries and grapefruit promise a transcendent tasting experience,” Siphiwe notes.
2.Nectar Rosé: This beautiful Pinot Noir Cap Classique boasts a colour reminiscent of romantic sunsets. “With aromas of strawberries and raspberries, it’s pure bliss in a glass,” she described.
3.Brut Blanc De Blancs 2020: Aged to perfection, this award-winning Cap Classique showcases Chardonnay grapes with a vivacious dance of crisp acidity and green apple notes. “It was scored 90 in the Tim Atkin 2023 SA Wine Report, and it truly represents the essence of quality,” Siphiwe said.
When it comes to food pairings, Katjene has some delightful suggestions. “The Brut Rosé pairs beautifully with smoked salmon or a fresh red berry salad. For the Nectar Rosé, think seared tuna steak or crème brûlée. And the Brut Blanc De Blancs is best enjoyed with oysters or roast chicken with herbs,” she recommended.
Katjene envisions a bright future for House of Azari. “In five years, I want us to be a household name both nationally and internationally,” she asserted.
