Joburg Film Festival invites Mzansi film-makers to submit their work for the first time

For the first time, local film-makers will get the opportunity to have their films screened at the prestigious Joburg Film Festival.

The much-anticipated seventh edition is set to take place in Sandton from March 11 to 16, 2025.

Festival curators have called on Mzansi film-makers to submit short or feature films for consideration for next year’s festival. Submissions will close on Tuesday, October 15.

With a focus on diverse storytelling and fostering dialogue, the festival unites film-makers, industry professionals, and audiences for an enriching cultural experience that celebrates the art of storytelling through cinema.

According to a statement, the 2025 Joburg Film Festival programme will consist of more than 60 inspiring titles from across the globe.

“The festival remains committed to promoting diverse perspectives and voices, providing a platform for both emerging talent and established film-makers,” read the statement.

Nhlanhla Ndaba, Joburg Film Festival curator, said that the Joburg Film Festival is at the front of Africa’s cultural and creative revolution in the ever-changing global media and entertainment scene.

“Now in its seventh year, the festival continues to celebrate film-making excellence, offering a unique window into the heart of a continent rich with inspiring stories waiting to be shared on the international stage.

“In addition, the team is thrilled to invite local film-makers to submit their work for consideration in next year's festival, marking this opportunity for the first time in the festival’s history,” said Ndaba.
