Johannesburg - An army of comic book fans, science-fiction enthusiasts, gamers and all lovers of geek culture made their way to Kyalami Race track centre in Johannesburg for the opening day of South Africa — and Africa's — first-ever Comic Con.
Visitor and lover of geek culture, Lee-Anne Rodrigues could not contain her excitement. "I am overwhelmed. I did not think they would pull this off. It feels like I am New York and I am going to be broke."
Comic Con Africa, which runs from 14 to 16 September, is showcasing various comic books and features a large range of pop culture and entertainment elements such as collectIble card games, manga, video games —the list goes on.

Comic Con Africa is also all about embracing the local talent and lesser-known comic book artists, showing South Africans that we have our own DC, Marvel and Shueisha books right on our doorstep.
In true Comic Con style, fans can enjoy celebrity panel discussions, workshops and autograph sessions. Needless to say, Comic Con visitors also get a peek at new movie and series promotions.
Reed Exhibitions Africa and the world's largest producer of pop culture events, ReedPOP joined forces with VS Gaming to make Comic Con a reality for South Africans.
