It’s been a while since Mzansi was gripped by a good legal drama, but that could soon change with Showmax’s upcoming legal drama “Law, Love and Betrayal”.

The trailer teases a black successful law firm drama as it gives a glimpse into the characters portrayed by the strong cast that features Nimrod Nkosi, Dineo Rasedile and Pearl Modiadie.

Nkosi stars as Gatsha Gumede, the founder of Gumede & Associates, where a succession battle is brewing.

Over his lengthy career, Nkosi has captivated audiences as the host of iconic TV shows, like Jam Alley and had stand-out acting roles in series such as “Isibaya”.

Nkosi describes his character Gatsha Gumede as a man who has achieved a lot in life and an expert in constitutional law.

“He came from a difficult background but pursued his education and studied law. He rose in that environment and eventually opened his law firm.

“Starting small, he built it up until Gumede and Associates was formed. He goes to court primarily to clear up messes and facilitate takeovers. If there's a case he wants and he knows the judge, his presence alone indicates the likely outcome.”

This is Nkosi’s first Showmax Original and he is excited, about taking on the new challenge. In preparation for his new role, Nkosi turned to his lawyer friends who explained that the courtroom dynamics differ in South Africa.

“Here, actors must rely on facial expressions and gestures more than movement. Ultimately, 80% of the performance must come from within the actor.”

Portraying the role of Gatsha and navigating the character came with its challenges, Nkosi shares he needed guidance on why he is such an angry man.

He has achieved a lot, and men like him have seen and done things that weigh heavy on their minds. You can imagine the cases he has handled and the things that burden him.

“Naturally, I’m not an angry person. I love people. I hug a lot. This was part of the discussion that I must depart from Nimrod because I’m too sweet.”

In a parallel universe, Nkosi believes he would be friends with his latest character, even though they are different.

“I like men of power and stature, but I prefer quiet power. Ostentatious power is not my thing. I like to arrive in a room and have everyone know I am there.”

“Law, Love and Betrayal” starts on September 5 with new episodes streaming every Thursday.
