Hip hop heavyweight Drake has thrown a playful jab at long-time friend Justin Bieber over a lack of communication.

The two megastars, both hailing from Canada, have enjoyed a close friendship for over a decade, yet recent social media exchanges have fans speculating whether there's a rift between them - or if they're simply sharing some light-hearted banter.

Bieber, the pop sensation behind hits like “Baby”, has been navigating a challenging period in his life, filled with both personal and professional stresses.

Amid ongoing health concerns following a series of frail public appearances and swirling divorce rumours with wife Hailey following the recent birth of their son Jack Blues, the “Sorry” singer appears eager to make a comeback in the music world.

In a bid to reignite his artistic collaborations, Bieber posted a heartfelt invitation on social media, urging fans and fellow artists to reach out if they wished to create music together.

“DM me if u wanna make music together,” he wrote.

However, it was Drake’s cheeky comment on Bieber’s post that sent fans into a frenzy. “I DM’d but no reply,” he quipped, garnering thousands of likes and sparking a flurry of speculation about the future of their musical partnership.

Although it remains unclear if a new collaboration is on the horizon, fans can only reminisce about the duo's previous encounters in the studio.

Their last collaboration, “Right Here”, featured on Bieber's 2012 album “Believe”, exemplified their musical synergy.

The excitement didn’t stop with Drake; other artists, including Big Sean and Jaden Smith, also displayed their interest in joining Bieber in the studio.

This collective interest underscores the anticipation fans have for new music, particularly after Bieber's hiatus following his 2020 album “Justice”.

Fans quickly took to social media to express their hopes for a collaboration, with one user exclaiming, “We better see a collab soon,” and another stating, “The duo we all need! Let’s make this happen asap!”

Drake's history with Bieber runs deep - he’s been described as a “big brother” figure by Bieber's manager, Scooter Braun, who noted in 2013 how the two share an “extremely special relationship.”

Their friendship has seen them collaborate not just musically, but also in performances and appearances; Drake featured in Bieber's iconic “Baby” music video and reportedly assisted with the creative direction of Bieber’s “Journals” project in 2013.

This long-standing bond adds layers to the playful exchange now unfolding on social media, making fans more curious than ever about the two artists' future together.

Despite the light-hearted nature of their banter, both Drake and Bieber have faced serious challenges this year.

Drake released an album with Jahron Brathwaite titled “Some Sexy Songs 4 U”, which fans had speculated would see a Bieber feature - but was left disappointed when that didn't materialise.

Meanwhile, Bieber has publicly responded to concerns over his well-being, calling the speculation “exhausting”.
