Series are always being launched in South Africa, so if you are going to bring outside the who's who, you have to deliver, and for the launch of “GO!”, Netflix made sure to deliver.
Upper-echelon Johannesburg boys' school, St David's Marist Inanda, served as the perfect location for the athleisure-themed event.
The school was transformed into a Netflix set with nods to the set design of the new series - from a taxi rank to a car wreck with everything from smoke canisters to moody red lighting.
“GO!”, is a high-stakes, high-risk six-part series that sees young sprinter Siya ‘Bolt’ Gumede portrayed by industry newcomer Thandolwethu Zondi, navigate life after being given a life-changing scholarship to a prestigious school in Johannesburg.
When last was a person on high school grounds and now with people from Mzansi’s acting industry, from actors to producers and directors. Luckily the Mzansi TV industry isn’t too cliquey, actors from different productions snapped pictures with each other.
However, when you see top scriptwriter and show creator Phathutshedzo “Phathu” Makwarela in conversation with former “The River” actress Linda Mtoba, “Scandal!” actor Kwenzo Ngcobo, and “My Brother’s Keeper” actor Wiseman Mncube, you can’t help but wonder if the next award-winning show is being birthed.
Screen legend Dawn Thandeka King, who stars as Zondi’s sickly mother on screen, had a great time interacting with her cast members and guests in attendance. Of course, she joined in the fun with Inanda Spirit, who performed several remixed versions of their viral warcries.
Mncube, who stars as the criminal brother, Shuffle, went for a relaxed olive green look by Bogart. Katlego Danke needs to sell her beauty secrets, the actress who portrays the character of Mrs Khumalo, slayed her glittery tracksuit look.
Actor and musician Ntobeko Sishi was unmissable in his Johannesburg fashion brand Nao Serati orange look styled by top celebrity stylist Kgosi Lesego.
Joburg’s gloomy weather didn’t stop guests from enjoying the fun with DJ Lelowhatsgood, keeping everyone dancing and the drinks flowing; the Waffle Bar was also a hit, but it took the school bell to get people home.
