South African actress Brenda Ngxoli has broken her silence about enduring years of alleged verbal and physical abuse by family members.

The award-winning actress revealed her struggles with homelessness and the emotional toll of staying silent about her pain for so long.

In a heartfelt statement shared online, Ngxoli said she was finally ready to speak out, both for her own healing and for her child.

“I’m done covering up my scars. For my child’s sake. May she know that even if it was a while later, Mama spoke out,” she said.

Ngxoli also spoke about the stigma of addressing abuse in families, sharing that whenever she raised concerns, she was accused of being “mentally unstable” or having a “wrong tone”.

She described how the situation left her homeless for nearly two years. “Why must the victim make a plan while the perpetrators are left to enjoy? Kwaze kwabuhlungu kum (I am in pain),” she added.

In a shocking video, she shared her mother’s alleged abuse, which she said included threats to expose her in the media.

Ngxoli’s openness sparked an outpouring of support from fans, fellow actors and production companies.

Ferguson Films, led by Connie Ferguson, donated R50 000 to Ngxoli, offering some relief during this trying time.

Ferguson’s act of kindness was widely praised, highlighting her compassion for the actress, who once starred in “The Queen.”

Additionally, digital creator Mandisi Tshingana raised over R100 000 for Ngxoli, while other celebrities such as Manaka Ranaka extended their support.

Ranaka, who is currently grieving the loss of her daughter, commented: “I am so sorry, Brenda.”

Social media users applauded Ranaka for showing kindness despite her own personal tragedy.

Ngxoli’s bravery in sharing her story has inspired many, with fans and celebs rallying behind her.
