Durban — A woman, reported missing, was found semi-conscious in a shower at a bed and breakfast in Umbilo on Friday.

The woman was found following a quick response and coordinated effort between Marshall Security, Homeland Security, and medical first responders led to the successful recovery and medical intervention of the missing woman.

Marshall Security managing director Tyron Powell said the company received a distress call from a concerned Umbilo resident, reporting that a 43-year-old woman had gone missing.

The Marshall Security team stepped in to help after learning that the woman had initially gone missing from Morningside, despite the location being outside Marshall Security’s primary operational area.

Powell explained that Marshall Security’s community support team quickly gathered vital information, including the missing woman’s description and photo. The details were shared across SAPS networks after the next of kin reported the case to Berea SAPS and opened a missing person’s report. Umbilo SAPS was also informed of the situation.

“Within just three hours of circulating the information, the woman was located at a bed and breakfast in Umbilo,” Powell said.

“Marshall Security’s special operations team, in collaboration with Homeland Security and other first responders, swiftly responded to the scene. Upon arrival, they found the semi-conscious woman in the shower. Demonstrating professionalism and care, the Marshall Security team safely removed her from the shower, placed her on the bed, and provided initial stabilisation.”

Powell said paramedics from a private ambulance service arrived to assess the woman’s condition further and transported her to a nearby hospital for treatment.

He added the woman’s family expressed their gratitude to Marshall Security’s special operations team, Homeland Security, Berea SAPS, and all responders involved for their quick and coordinated action, which ensured her safety and well-being.

“This successful operation highlights the importance of collaboration between security teams, medical personnel, and law enforcement in life-threatening situations. It also reaffirms Marshall Security’s commitment to community safety, even beyond their usual service areas,” Powell added.

Police have been approached for comment regarding the incident.
