Durban — eThekwini Municipality residents have been left with uncollected waste, this time in the Phoenix area, after an interruption of waste collection services.
In a statement on Saturday morning, the municipality informed residents of the interruption of waste collection services in the Phoenix area, north of Durban.
“This is due to a labour challenge in some depots. Cleansing and Solid Waste management are currently exploring other alternative measures of providing services in the affected areas,” the municipality said.
The municipality apologised to residents and businesses for the inconvenience caused and would work around the clock to clear the backlog.
Reacting to the statement, Ian Munro said he did not know the municipality was collecting.
Mark Naicker said: “This is getting out of hand; fire the lot of them and employ the thousands that are unemployed, I’m tired of having the city held to ransom by these ungrateful, inconsiderate, wasteful staff.”
Larren Reddy said: “At every turn, always staff issues. No repercussions.”
Reggie Govender said: “Nothing new, this is the service we must get used to, hopefully only until 2024.”
Sashen Manilall said that although the statement was written for immediate release, it was posted an hour ago at 8.40am, “24 hours after the waste was left out for disposal lol.”
