Durban — Police are investigating a murder and attempted murder after a man and a woman were shot in an alleged hit in Mpumalanga, KwaZulu-Natal on Tuesday morning.

Police spokesperson Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo confirmed that Mpumalanga police are investigating a murder and attempted murder.

Ngcobo said that it was alleged that on Tuesday morning at 5.55am, a 25 year-old man was in his taxi with a 39-year-old woman when they were shot by unknown people.

“The male victim was shot on the shoulder and the female was shot multiple times. They were taken to hospital where the male victim succumbed to his injuries. The motive for the killing is unknown,” Ngcobo said.

The woman had to be airlifted to the hospital.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Shawn Herbst said at 6.29am on Tuesday, Netcare 911 responded to a shooting on Hammarsdale Street 76755 in Mpumalanga H section, outside Durban.

“Reports indicate that an adult female had been shot multiple times in an alleged hit,” Herbst said.

He said paramedics assessed the scene and found the woman in a critical condition.

The woman was treated on scene by Netcare 911 emergency care practitioners.

“Due to the nature of her injuries, a Netcare 911 helicopter air ambulance was activated to airlift the lady to a specialist medical facility,” Herbst said.

He said circumstances leading up to the shooting will be investigated by the Hammarsdale SAPS who were on scene.
