Durban - Two suspected drug dealers are expected to appear before the Ramsgate Magistrate’s Court, facing drug-related charges on Thursday, after they were arrested by the provincial drug and firearm unit.

The unit had conducted an observation on Wednesday in Margate.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Nqobile Gwala said that the unit had gone to Erasmus Road, after information was received about a drug dealer who was busy packaging drugs. A sting operation was put in place and the suspect was found at his flat, busy packing drugs at his kitchen counter.

“A sting operation was put in place and the suspect was found at his flat busy packing drugs at his kitchen counter. He was found in possession of 126 ecstasy tablets, 216 pink/clear capsules, five pieces of rock cocaine, 30 plastic wrappings of cocaine powder, 10 clear packets of cocaine powder, a full moon of rock cocaine, and three large packets of cocaine powder,” Gwala said.

“Police also seized R600 000 counterfeit R100 notes from the suspect. The recovered drugs are valued at R54 000,” added Gwala.

Gwala said a 36-year-old suspect was arrested for possession of drugs and possession of counterfeit money.

Earlier, the unit had conducted an early morning observation at an identified hotspot in Margate.

Gwala said the team pounced on the unsuspecting man, who was busy selling drugs on Uplands Road.

“The suspect was searched and was found with 26 plastic bags of crystal meth. The recovered drugs are valued at R6 500,” Gwala said.

“A 31-year-old suspect was placed under arrest for possession and dealing in drugs,” added Gwala.

Gwala said that both suspects are appearing before the Ramsgate Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
