Durban — K9 Odi was the hero on Wednesday night after he located a man who disappeared from a crash scene.
Medi Response spokesperson Paul Herbst said late on Wednesday, the service responded to the N2 near Queen Nandi Drive, north of Durban, for reports of an accident.
Herbst said on the arrival of paramedics, it was established that a bakkie had rear-ended a stationary truck. The driver of the bakkie sustained moderate injuries and was assessed by paramedics. The man refused care and transport to the hospital and signed a waiver for treatment.
He said a short while later, the man disappeared from the scene and the Medi Response search and rescue unit was called to locate him.
“K9 Odi was given a scent from the steel railing where the man was last seated and he walked spoor down the embankment to locate the man who had fallen down said embankment, landing in dense bush. The man was stabilised by paramedics and transported to the hospital,” Herbst said.
“Well done to K9 Odi.”
Meanwhile, also last night, Medi Response responded to the scene of a crash where a vehicle rolled multiple times in Ballito, north of Durban.
“On arrival of crews, it was ascertained that a single light motor vehicle had lost control and rolled multiple times. Five occupants of the vehicle were lucky to escape with minor to moderate injuries,” Herbst said.
