Durban — A private security company continues to work with law enforcement in the fight against vehicle theft. This was highlighted in the recent recovery of a VW Polo that was stolen in Musgrave, Berea in August.
KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said police in KwaMashu found an abandoned vehicle on Sunday in KwaMashu G section.
“It was discovered that the vehicle was stolen on Windmill Road in Musgrave on August 8, 2024.”
On Sunday around 10am, Marshall Security’s Special Operations Team received critical information about a VW Polo stolen in Berea in August this year. A case had already been opened following the theft.
“Acting promptly on this intelligence, the Special Operations Team, in collaboration with KwaMashu SAPS, proceeded to the vehicle’s reported location in the KwaMashu area. Upon arrival, the team discovered the stolen Polo abandoned,” Marshall Security managing director Tyron Powell said.
He said the vehicle was transported to KwaMashu SAPS for further investigation and processing. Additionally, authorities will continue their inquiries to gather more details surrounding the theft and recovery.
Powell added: “This successful operation underscores the importance of close cooperation between Marshall Security and law enforcement in the fight against vehicle theft. It also reaffirms Marshall Security’s commitment to ensuring that stolen property is returned and that our communities are kept safe.
“Marshall Security encourages all residents to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity to assist in the ongoing effort to combat crime.”
Meanwhile, in an unrelated matter, last month, a VW Polo Vivo stolen in the Morningside area was recovered in KwaMashu.
In one incident, Marshall Security’s Special Operations Team was activated by Tracker SA regarding a white VW Polo Vivo that had been stolen from a well-known shopping centre on Lilian Ngoyi Road in the Morningside area.
At the time, Powell said acting quickly, their Special Operations Team, in collaboration with Tracker SA and KwaMashu SAPS proceeded to the last known coordinates in the KwaMashu area.
Powell said that while the vehicle was not located at that spot, the compromised tracking unit was recovered at the scene. Shortly thereafter, a secondary activation from another tracking unit led the team to another location in KwaMashu where the vehicle was found abandoned.
