While there is no doubt that Eskom has to be saved, surely the minimum requirement before pouring more of our very hard-earned tax money into it would be some sort of business plan.
This must outline how it plans to reduce costs, increase efficiency and get out of the mess that its own management has created. As for the corrupt and overpriced coal contracts, the mind boggles.
I am told on good authority that Eskom recently spent R16 million on 10 new Audi motor cars for some of the executives from a Pretoria dealer. Now who in their right mind, unless they were corrupt, would even think about doing something like this while they are in such a mess?
As for Denel, SABC and SAA, good business sense would say that they should be sold off to private enterprise, if anyone is interested in buying any of them, or be liquidated.
