Cape Town - This Easter weekend the Zakellie Organisation, run by Vincent and Lynn Adonis, will be doing an Easter food drive for residents living in the Flamingo Settlement in Lansdowne.
The drive includes parcels containing fish fingers, fish cakes, potato chips and fresh fruit, and party packs with marshmallow Easter eggs, chips and lollipops for the children.
“I started doing work at an ECD programme with Mark Kleinschmidt (ward councillor, ward 60) and decided to take it on my own and form my own NPC. We started in 2020 and got donations from friends and family. We were able to make soup, starting with 1-2 days of work and eventually going up to 3-4 days,” Vincent Adonis said.
He said that they were not very active during the pandemic but eventually picked up again, and that their regular food drives include soups, biryani, pasta and sandwiches. Currently they are working closely to feed the Flamingo Settlement.
“Our main focus is the Flamingo Settlement, but if there are leftovers then we supply food to people living on the streets near Wetton and Lansdowne bridges,” he explained.
Zakellie’s work goes a long way to helping the Flamingo Settlement residents to have a good, home-cooked meal, and as the winter months approach, Zakellie will continue to help the community through difficult circumstances.
You can contact Vincent (084 561 5513) or Lynn (084 588 3139) to find out more information regarding donations.
