Police are appealing for assistance to help apprehend the killers of pregnant 30-year-old Imaan Syms of Woodstock.
After more than a week, police confirmed that no arrest was made as yet.
Police spokesperson, Wesley Twigg, said: Kindly be advised that the matter you are referring to is still under investigation. No arrests have been made yet. Anyone with any information who can assist with the investigation is kindly requested to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or use the MySAPS application anonymously.”
Syms was shot in the chest and buttocks on March 10, 2025, in Sussex Street, Woodstock.
Her father, Ziyaad Williams, was allegedly also a target and escaped the shooting unharmed.
Williams is a prominent member in the minstrels and is the leader of D Six Hanover Park.
Police picked up 9mm parabellum shells from the scene.
An acquaintance close to the family who asked for their name to be withheld due to the sensitivity of the case, said Syms was previously in a relationship with Abdul Taliep Boonzaaier, who was shot and killed two years ago in Manenberg and was devastated by his death.
Boonzaier was the son of slain former Hard Livings gang leader, Rashied Staggie, who was murdered in 2019 in Salt River.
A video of Syms dancing and having fun with Boonzaaier was shared on social media after her murder.
The motive for the shooting has yet to be determined, with many speculating that it could be linked to various narratives such as a love triangle or gang related.
Williams is also well-known for owning vintage cars which are used for matric dances.
Syms was mother to a toddler and was in a new relationship according to the acquaintance.
The family has yet to release a public statement and Williams has yet to speak with the Cape Argus after attempts were made to reach him.
