"We want every trip to go smoothly, which is why we’ve implemented passenger and luggage restrictions in South Africa. These limits help to manage comfort, space, and safety – especially when luggage is involved," the company said.
Moving forward, riders opting for Uber Go will now be limited to a maximum of two people.
According to Uber, Uber Go is "the lower-cost option that utilises smaller, fuel-efficient vehicles, making it a more affordable way to travel around the city".
Riders choosing to travel with UberX, Uber Comfort, and Uber Black will now be limited to three passengers. Previously, the number of passengers allowed was four.
For those travelling in larger groups, UberXL will be limited to six people, while Uber Van will be limited to seven passengers.
However, the company emphasised that this is guidance only and urged customers who are unsure to contact the driver to confirm, as it may depend on the specific vehicle.
"Please know this guidance is advisory and if you feel unsure, we recommend that you contact the driver to confirm as it would depend on the vehicle."
